Thermal wearing of PVC Cables- Determining suitable cable for operations

PVC cables are durable, but time lower down the thermal strength of cables that results in severe safety issues, costing issues and performance issues. We are aware of the present weather conditions in India and especially in summers. PVC cables installed on the roof and in wall cavities are prone to extreme temperature for prolonged time duration throughout their service life. Manufacturing units of PVC cables in India are using formulated polymers to offer the listed characteristics to the PVC products:

·        Mechanical protection

·        Electrical protection

·        Long service life

·        Ease of installation

Thermal wear and tear of polymers over time result in loss of above listed characteristics, which make cables risky to use for daily operations. Manufacturers of PVC cables in India have set a series of tests in which they determine the suitability of cables for carrying out routine operations.

Reasons behind failure mechanism:

The main cause of failure mechanism is the heat exposure due to which poorly formulated PVC compounds lose physical properties rapidly because of lower density of plasticizer. The most risky location is the roof where these cables are installed. The major issues reported are cracked sheaths and insulation that makes installation unsafe. In case the manufacturers of PVC cables in India fail to carry out or miss any test can directly affect the quality and performance of the product.

Therefore, it is essential for manufacturing units to perform every test and quality checks to determine suitability of PVC cables for routine operations. This can be done by highly experienced supervisors who can relatively check the standards and performance of the PVCproducts under extreme weather and heat conditions. Any defective piece should be replaced or get repaired before releasing the batch for market sale.
